Missing Connector Clamp
This is a remodeled, older home in Sterling Virginia with a new disposal and original wiring. Nothing is wrong with using old wiring for new appliances. In this case, however, you can see the exposed cables inside the fraying insulation. This cable should have been trimmed somewhat, utilizing newer copper for the connection, and a clamp installed to hold the cable inside the disposal. The clamp does two things - it secures the cable so it cannot be yanked out and it also seals the hole to prevent any sparks from escaping. This cable should also be secured to the drain line within 12" of the disposal.
