Jay Markanich (bilingual in English and Spanish) has been a licensed general contractor and home inspector since 1981. He has performed home inspections full time since 1987. This long experience equips him to render expert opinions based on practical experience and honest conviction.
Jay's computerized inspections are easy to understand and recognized to be one of the best in the industry. The report differs in that it points out positive aspects of the home in addition to potential problems. It is generated and emailed the same day as the inspection, and is typically 25 - 40 typed pages or so. Its three sections include a Summary, Analysis of the House and an Analysis of the Systems and Components. It automatically cross references into his excellent book, Your House, Your Home, for a thorough explanation of all identified items. The book is in its 35th edition, 416 pages long, two columns per page, and rife with over 3,000 photos, diagrams and charts. It is revised and updated nearly annually. We are proud of it and consider it to be one of the most comprehensive and understandable books in the industry. A copy of the book is given to the client at the time of the inspection.
And at every home inspection Jay performs a thermal imaging sweep of the house for FREE. Every thermal image that is taken with the camera is included in the report, with a complete explanation.
Jay Markanich renders inspections in nearly all of northern Virginia - from Lovettsville to Fredericksburg to Arlington/Alexandria to Culpeper, and everywhere in between. There is not a county in Northern Virginia he does not service, but Jay spends most of his time in Prince William, Loudoun, Fairfax and Arlington counties. He also does inspections in Maryland, nearest to Virginia. He frequently travels out of the area for special client needs.
Jay's services include pre-drywall inspections, complete home inspections of condos, townhouses and old and new detached homes, a special interest in and ability for historic properties, environmental tests (radon and lead), home energy tune ups including thermal imaging analyses, and thermal image analyses for other problems (foundation leaks, electrical problems, roof leaks, etc).
He is a certified home inspector with I-NACHI (the Inter-National Association of Certified Home Inspectors), as well as certifications with the Association of Construction Inspectors, Environmental Assessment Association and ESA Environmental Solutions Association. Jay is a member of the Virginia Association of Real Estate Inspectors and the Virginia Association of Certified Home Inspectors (now affiliated with Yadzooks). He is also a certified Home Energy Efficiency Expert registered with CMC Energy Services, Inc. His home energy tune ups can save homeowners as much as 30% in their energy bills. He has earned certification in Thermal Imaging and Building Science. He is certified in and familiar with Green Building Techniques and Products.
Jay is also licensed by the state of Virginia #3380-000723
and has the New Residential Structures designation.
Jay is a Certified Master Inspector.
Only 3% of home inspectors have the CMI designation.

Manufactured Home Foundation Certifications
The requirements for government guaranteed loans on manufactured housing changed to include a permanent foundation. It is required that foundations be certified by a licensed professional engineer to be in compliance with HUD-7584 (Permanent Foundation Guide for Manufactured Housing). This applies to FHA and VA loans.
As a result, many private lenders offering conventional loans have added this as a requirement for their loans.
