Insufficient Cantilever Support Attachment

This is how the floor joists under the bedroom over the previously-mentioned Vienna Virginia kitchen are attached to the interior wall.  They have been notched and are merely toe-nailed.  From this point they extend approximately 15 feet and comprise not only the floor of the bedroom above but the cantilevered overhang pictured to the right.
