Please Hold Me Up!

Retaining walls, particularly those without proper drainage behind and through them, are subject to many forces.   Single concrete block walls, such as this one in Springfield Virginia, are particularly vulnerable to movement.  This elderly wall is being pushed by a tree, water pressure and expansive soils.  In turn, it is being held up by the large tree.  This is a problem waiting to happen and will eventually crumble into the driveway.
